Midwest Steel sponsors State of the Industry Business Luncheon

On Thursday, August 6th, leaders from local refineries and chemical plants spoke to members of the Texas City La Marque Chamber of Commerce about their current operations and plans for 2016. The State of the Industry Luncheon featured plant managers for Valero Refining, Marathon Petroleum, Eastman Chemical, Ashland and Dow.

Each of the speakers forecast bright futures for their sites and the region in general. Connie Bradley and Ray Brooks spoke about ongoing efforts to integrate operations of the Marathon Texas City and Galveston Bay Refineries. Sal Visconti predicted strong performance for Valero especially because the company is well-positioned as the nation’s leading independent refiner. Ryan McGill spoke about safety, and explained the importance of their Texas City Plant as a supplier of feedstock for other Dow plants. Jay Bizzaro talked about the types of specialty chemicals that Ashland produces in Texas City, and about how 80% of their products were now being sold for export. And the new Plant Manager for Eastman Chemical, Sergio Mature introduced himself to the community, and described Eastman’s plans to develop a world-class facility by attracting new business to the Texas City site.

Midwest Steel was a chief sponsor of the luncheon, reflecting its support for local industry partners who rely on Midwest Steel to dismantle existing units, tanks and obsolete equipment, paving the way for future improvements and expansion projects.
