A Family Business Forged By Heritage and Destiny

Midwest Steel is a family-owned and operated company and has been since its inception in 1968. But our roots go even deeper than that. The first chapter in the Midwest Steel story opens in the western U.S. back in 1957 when our founder, Richard Kralovetz, built a successful scrap metal and battery recycling business from scratch.

We believe that there is no better place than the United States to build a successful business from the ground up — Midwest Steel is living proof. It’s also strong evidence of how far family values can carry you when they’re bolstered by hard work and earnest determination. We’re also a company of innovation and firsts with an eye on the future that never rests on its laurels.

A Women-Owned Demolition and Dismantling Company

Our business has always been family-owned and operated. When our founder, Richard Kralovets retired in 1997 — he turned the helm over to his daughter, Tammy Horton. Today, we can say with great pride that Midwest Steel is one of only a few women-owned demolition and dismantling businesses in the world.

That not only makes Midwest Steel especially unique in its field — it also affords us special recognition and certain advantages. We’re proud to be certified as a Women-Owned Business by WBENC and recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contract program.

Midwest Steel: A Proud, Women-Owned American Business

Being a women-owned business in the demolition and dismantling industry is particularly unique. We take our status seriously because it is not only a recognition of hard work and perseverance — it is also a great responsibility.

Our CEO, Tammy Horton serves as an example to women and girls across the globe. More than just a female captain of industry — she is an inspiration. A symbol that women deserve and have earned a place at the head of the table in American business.

Every time someone chooses Midwest Steel as a partner, they help to further the aspirations of women and girls everywhere and put another crack in that glass ceiling and that’s something to feel great about.
