A PROUD HISTORY OF SERVING THE NATION’S OIL, GAS AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRY
Our history at Midwest Steel spans over half a century. It was back in 1957 when our owner, Richard Kralovetz, started with only two things: A truck and an ambitious plan to purchase and recycle batteries on the West Coast.
Over the next 10 years, Richard developed a reputation for integrity and fair dealing that earned him contracts to purchase all types of scrap metal from oil and gas, defense, and aerospace industries in California and Arizona. Soon his clients were asking Richard to also handle their dismantling and demolition requirements, and in 1968 Midwest Steel Company was born.
In one of the key innovations that helped define our industry, Richard pioneered the use of portable hydraulic shears that soon became the gold standard for the plant dismantling and tank demolition industry. Today, Midwest Steel continues to innovate as an industry leader in plant dismantling and demolishing oil refineries and industrial facilities.
A MULTIGENERATIONAL FAMILY BUSINESS
Richard Kralovetz retired in 1997 and turned the reins over to his daughter, Tammy Horton, who is now responsible for the day-to-day operations of Midwest Steel. Tammy faithfully followed her father’s business plan and in the subsequent 18 years. Under her leadership, Midwest Steel team has earned dozens of commendations, national top 20 ranking, international recognition, and preferred contractor status for dozens of the world’s leading industrial corporations.
